The atmosphere on Mars is very different from Earth's. The air pressure on Mars is only about 1% of Earth's. This makes the atmosphere very thin, and doesn't provide much protection from cosmic radiation. The temperature on Mars can range from about -140°C at the poles during winter, to around 20°C at the equator during the warmest part of the day in summer. However, the average temperature on Mars is around -60°C.

The thin atmosphere also means that liquid water cannot exist on the surface of Mars. Any water on Mars exists as ice, either in the ice caps at the poles or buried underground. Mars has polar ice caps that grow and shrink with the seasons. During the summer, the ice caps partly thaw, releasing water vapor into the atmosphere. In the winter, this water vapor condenses and falls back to the surface as ice.

The surface of Mars is very dry and dusty. Strong winds regularly sweep across the surface, creating dust storms that can cover the entire planet. These dust storms block sunlight, lowering temperatures further. Mars has a number of volcanoes, some of which are the largest in the Solar System. The largest volcano, Olympus Mons, is over 22 km high - more than three times the height of Mount Everest.

Mars has two small moons, Phobos and Deimos, which are irregularly shaped and much smaller than Earth's moon. These moons are thought to be captured asteroids. Phobos is slowly spiraling inward and will eventually break apart or collide with the surface of Mars.

Overall, the Martian environment is very hostile to life as we know it. The thin atmosphere, extreme temperatures, and lack of liquid water make it a challenging place for human exploration and habitation. However, future Mars missions may help us better understand the potential for life on this mysterious neighboring planet.
